Intro to Boating Course

Take in the spectacular views and lights of the city of Nanaimo. Become a member of the crew on a larger sailboat and explore the local waters. Novice boaters will be introduced to safe practices in preparing to leave the dock, while underway, and when returning to dock. You might even learn a thing or two about marine life! No experience necessary.

Basic Sailing & Cruising Course~Theory 
Learn the skills necessary to safely sail local waters in moderate wind and sea conditions on a sloop rigged sailboat. Course components include boating safety and language, knots, basic sail theory and trim, anchoring, navigation, right of way rules, emergency preparedness and more! Earn your PCOC Card too. Basic Cruising Standard (2011-03-31)
No experience necessary.

Basic Sailing & Cruising Course ~Practical
Put the concepts and skills learned in the Theory course into practice. You will be trimming sails, setting anchors, helming the boat, retrieving persons overboard, docking, and developing seamanship and basic navigation skills. The balance, propulsion and steering system will be a focus for the course. Basic Cruising Standard (2011-03-31)
Note: To earn the Basic Crew or Day Skipper Basic Cruising Standards, both ashore and afloat skills must be demonstrated consistently. Prerequisite:
Sail Canada~Basic Sailing & Cruising Theory~ or written equivalent.
